Divine Mercy Care and its principal program Tepeyac Family Center, LLC, announce the opening of Tepeyac School of Sonography (TSS). TSS offers a 12-week certificate program in basic obstetrics ultrasound. Applications for the cohort beginning in January 2014 are being accepted.
TSS is certified to operate by the State Council of Higher Education in Virginia (SCHEV).
Tepeyac School of Sonography trains healthcare professionals acquire basic obstetrics ultrasound skills through rigorous classroom and laboratory instruction that is fully integrated with extensive hands-on clinical experience. Graduates will competently, safely and effectively provide basic ultrasound scans to pregnant women and unborn children. As part of Tepeyac Family Center, LLC, TSS mentors students to convey the healing presence of Christ through excellent medical care that respects the consciences of patients and providers, serves the poor, and upholds the sanctity of life at all stages.
The certificate program allows experienced healthcare providers, such as nurses and physicians, expand his or her area of practice to include obstetrics ultrasound. Additionally, as crisis pregnancy centers nationwide move toward offering limited obstetrics ultrasound services, the TSS certificate program fills the need for high quality and safe basic obstetrics ultrasounds.
Healthcare professionals with a 2-4 year degree in an allied health field, or a college degree combined with significant healthcare experience, or a current license issued by a state Board of Medicine/Board of Nursing, are eligible to apply. The school accepts up to 5 students per cohort, with 3 cohorts scheduled per calendar year. A total of 360 hours are divided between 195 hours of in-person classroom time and 165 hours of hands-on, supervised clinical time. Classroom and clinical hours will be in the offices of Divine Mercy Care and Tepeyac Family Center in Fairfax, VA. The 12 week certificate program runs Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
The TSS curriculum is based upon the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) recommended curricula for Ob/GYN Principles and Instrumentation. The ARDMS curricula are used by the Commission of Accreditation of Allied Health Programs to accredit certificate programs in diagnostic medical sonography.
